World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items are a method to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it can increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests Each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a specific amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's stats base increases as it is upgraded. This is the sum of all of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the number of perks that have to be changed in order to upgrade an item.
The level of an item is a popular measurement of power and is visible on all item tooltips. It also serves as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is capped at an lower level). Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.
Using the item level can help players compare the strength of equipment when deciding to purchase or sell. It's a good gauge of an item's worth and the amount of damage it will be capable of dealing with. The item level can also be used to compare items when examining the inventory of a vendor.
The item level can be seen by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the full description of the item, including its level. It can also be located by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are many theories about the method by which the level of an item is calculated. One theory suggests that the item level is calculated using a formula that calculates the value of the stats of an item really are. It considers the fact that different perks have different values and that gems in sockets add to the item's overall value. This process can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl, which is typically close to the actual Blizzard level of the item.
However, this is not the only factor that affects an item's ilvl, because the level of the region the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, such as by adding an additional level to its haste rating or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.
Item Stats
The item's stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats of a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods which are then enhanced by the player's level.
The upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. An item that is white or grey for instance, can only be upgraded one time however, items with rare tiers can be upgraded several times at higher prices.
Another way to change the stats of an item is by affixing it. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes are used to give items extra damage, special capabilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs) or to make them unique by adding a name.
All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold as well as items which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other options for rerolling.
Players can choose to upgrade an item with specific stats or reroll the affixes. The possible stat ranges for an item are based on the level of the item, but every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within the specified range, unless it's an item that is unique or the result of a God roll from a raid boss.
This is another aspect that could be changed by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or deciding which stats to boost. As with base equipment, it must be done per item and the interface for item comparison will not show all possible stats simultaneously.
Item Luck
The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the likelihood of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or ability to upgrade item s. It gives players the possibility to obtain better gear in earlier waves and is therefore more valuable in early game runs than in later ones, since most players prefer greater weapon scaling and defense over damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading, which increases with each level and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, shields, and armor can be made or spawn with the Luck property, which has an initial value of 40. These items can be improved by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) for a further +40 luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.
Furthermore there are certain items, such as the Hollow infused weapon, can be equipped to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items are available from the shop, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to increase their success rate or prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.
When you upgrade an item the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased as much, and the chance that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%.
The success of an item can be affected by the luck of that item. Every item has an initial success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.
Note that item upgrades are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects may be obstructed by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
